The functionality of thermowells
Thermowells are used wherever temperature sensors are not in direct contact with the medium or when they have to be replaced in case of a fault without having to empty the whole tank, for example. Thermowells are usually made of a metal material such as stainless steel. This allows use in a broad field of applications.
Thermowells are used almost everywhere
Thermowells are used in all industries where the functionality and the result depend on the temperature measurements. This concerns areas such as:
- Food industry
- Heating and air-conditioning
- Oven and boiler construction
- Water treatment
For precise temperature measurement it is decisive that the thermowell is completely surrounded by the medium. Only then is exact measurement of the temperature guaranteed. To improve heat transfer to the sensor a thermally conductive paste should be used with the thermowell.
