Safety edges are used for the safeguarding of closing edges at pinch and shear points. These are categorised among the tactile sensors within the Safety Sensors product category. Here, pressure-sensitive sensors are used, and as soon as physical resistance is detected, the movement stops. Thus, accidents and damage to machinery can be avoided. Safety edges, also known as safety contact strips, are used with automated gates, machines, handling equipment, and platform elements.

The safety edges feature a chamber-in-chamber system. As such, the interior circuit is protected against external influences. The system functions by means of the closed-circuit principle.
