Operating principle of proximity switches
The inductive proximity switches operate to the law of induction, i.e. they can detect metallic objects without contact and are therefore used for precise detection of processes in automation technology. Capacitive proximity switches, however, have a sensor electrode whose surroundings are called active zone in which there is the electric field. The medium to be detected leads to an increase in capacitance and therefore to a change in the output status of the sensor. Capacitive proximity switches are therefore often used for level detection because they can precisely detect different media through non-metallic tank walls or on bypass pipes.
